A brief description of the undergraduate degree program (2nd program):

Study the bond between humankind and nature with an environmental geography bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Here you’ll find yourself surrounded by highly motivated and enthusiastic people just like you: curious about the earth and how humans connect to it.

Environmental geography is meant to be experienced — and UW-Eau Claire’s geography department helps you do just that. We offer students direct access to state-of-the-art technology typically not available to undergraduate students. You’ll also learn from engaged faculty, who know you by name and are excited to mentor you.

Through field experience, internships and collaborative research, your skillset and resume will grow quickly. And faculty-led immersion experiences, our National Student Exchange program and study abroad opportunities offer life-changing, experiential learning. Previous students have traveled to places like the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Ecuador, Hawaii and Turkey — exploring new environments, cultures and ways of living.

CThe University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's public health degree is an excellent major for those curious about health on a global scale and eager to help others.

Rooted in experiential learning, the major's rigorous, interdisciplinary curriculum covers a variety of important topics, giving you the freedom to pursue multiple passions. Designed to pair well with an additional major, such as mathematics, sociology or communications, you have the opportunity to create the diverse resume that employers seek. Dive into social movements, epidemiology, geography, sociology, communications, health policy and management and so much more. Small class sizes allow for a more personalized, cohort-style education.

Students in the major are regularly encouraged to question, discover and explore. Opportunities to travel and study abroad will further build your awareness of the world around you. And unique research projects, internships and community-engaged service will enhance your problem-solving, analytical and leadership skills. At the end of their program, students will complete a capstone experience, such as an internship, research or public health education and outreach campaigns, giving them real-world experiences before going on to graduate school or into the workplace.

Environment, Society, and Culture, Minor

A brief description of the undergraduate minor or concentration:

The Environment, Society, and Culture minor enables students to apply interdisciplinary approaches to investigate the human and ecological dimensions of environmental issues, including climate change, environmental justice, pollution, and sustainable food systems. The minor provides the opportunity to integrate courses from a variety of disciplines, including economics, environmental science, ethics, gender studies, geography, history, policy, public health, and sociology. Concepts and tools from these disciplines empower students to address environmental challenges at local-to-global scales. The minor is open to all students and is designed to be flexible so that students can tailor their courses to meet their particular needs and interests.

In addition, students gain real world research skills and apply principles of environmental justice, civic engagement, sustainability, and strategic policy development to learn about the underlying drivers of critical challenges such as climate change, air and water pollution, biodiversity loss, urbanization, and infectious disease outbreaks. Students in the minor examine social and environmental conflicts and the policies and strategies to address these conflicts. The Environment, Society, and Culture minor challenges students to think critically and holistically to understand the social and environmental dynamics of environmental concerns.

Sustainability and Climate Action, Certificate

A brief description of the undergraduate minor or concentration (2nd program):

This certificate is for students who are concerned about the escalating climate crisis and who seek the foundational understanding and skills to lead societal and technological transitions necessary to achieve a sustainable world. It is designed to complement students’ primary field(s) of study so that they can apply their learning from these five courses to whatever future academic studies and/or career paths they follow. All enrolled students will gain curricular breadth, essential to developing their interdisciplinary thinking to address this 21st century problem.
