2018 Climate Action Plan
-In 2007, the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire (UWEC) joined the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment (ACUPCC). As a signatory to this agreement, UWEC recognizes the serious consequences of climate change and commits to becoming a carbon-neutral campus.
-Working to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050
-Implementing carbon-free and carbon-reduced systems in existing and new buildings
-Seeking third-party certification for new buildings
-Commitment to preserving and enhancing not only the natural beauty of our campuses but also our built environment and the relationships that define the health and equity of our communities and region.
-Improved energy efficiency in campus steam line
-Invested in renewable energy, including on-campus solar panels, a solar hot water heater, and purchase of solar panels in a community solar garden
-Purchased renewable energy credits and other carbon emissions offsets
-Reduced coal consumption at the campus heating plant
-Improved pedestrian and biking infrastructure
