A brief description of the sustainability-focused immersive program(s) offered by the institution:
Building Opportunities through Networks of Discovery (BOND) is a first year experience for incoming students from the College of Science and Mathematics or the Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology. The yearlong cohort-style program consists of a summer experience followed by a Fall and Spring GE sustainability-themed courses (CSM10 and CSM15). Registration in these classes is required to be part of the program.
Students learn about the Scientific Method and Evidence Based Decision Making by reading scientific articles about the effects of climate change, and then apply what they have learned by conducting a small research project to improve sustainability on campus. Students collect data, make interpretations, and present their findings to the campus community.
