The Sustainability Advisory Committee began in 2013, with the goal of developing the sustainability master plan. At the completion of the plan, the committee has moved into implementation of the plan and meets quarterly to discuss sustainability activities, progress on goals and updates.


Members of each committee, including affiliations and role:

Students: 4 (Environmental Stewards Association, ASI Representative and 2 others who assist with student engagement)
Staff: 26 (Representation from across the campus departments. Assist with engagement, education, providing ideas and connections across all areas of campus).
Faculty: 7 (Kinesiology, Biology, Physics, Psychology, Anthropology, Geography, Environmental Studies)

A brief description of each sustainability office:

The holistic sustainability program is part of Safety, Health and Sustainability. The oversite of the Sustainability Master Plan, student engagement, academics/curriculum, social justice collaboration, zero waste and more come out of this department.

In addition, we partner with Energy Management and Utility Services, who oversees the day to day regarding energy and Facility Services who manages or operational waste, landscaping, and other grounds related efforts.
We also partner with our Parking and Commuter Services office with their Sustainable Transportation Coordinator.

A brief description of the activities and substantive accomplishments of the institution-wide coordinating body or officer during the previous three years:

The Sustainability program has received 4 awards in the last year (2 focused on curriculum and 2 focused on zero waste). We have raised over $95,000 for programs focused on inclusive excellence just in the last 2 years. We also signed the Presidents' Climate Leadership Commitment in 2023. In addition, the recognition of the program across campus has been heightened with the collaborative nature sustainability provides- working across divisions and departments. Numerous events, workshops and activities have also taken place, such as a renewed Earth Day Month celebration, Campus Sustainability month, coverage of sustainability in the campus newspaper and Office of Communications news, and overall the campus is striving to become more sustainable.

Job description: facilitates sustainable transportation policy and program development, oversees all aspects of TDM programs by collecting data to evaluate transportation usage, forecasts long range planning for the program, serves to increase participation in sustainable transportation options, and is responsible for the administrative support functions and daily operations of Alternative Transportation/Sustainable Commuter services and programs. Incumbent will independently coordinate, implement, and evaluate assignments, duties, and projects of a varied and complex nature related to alternate modes of transportation to include: walking, bicycling, carpool, vanpool, car share, public transit, rideshare, micro-mobility, motorcycle programs, and all other emerging non-single occupancy vehicle alternate modes of transportation programs.
