Community Equity Research Center (CERC) of the Central Valley, previously named the Center for Public Policy Studies, envisions bringing the community and University together to be a hub for community-driven research that promotes equity and inclusion among diverse populations to improve residents’ health and well-being. The Center’s goals are to build and deepen new partnerships with stakeholders in the Central Valley; to advance equity and quality of life for the Central Valley and Stockton residents; nurture systemic change through local action, advocacy, and policy development.
CERC was established to help engage CSU faculty and students in participatory action research that will support and inform efforts to replace prevailing patterns of inequitable conditions and outcomes in our communities. Participatory action research, is a methodological approach to research, policy development, and advocacy that privileges community expertise. In the past, studies have examined concerns related to the economy, natural resources, population and demography, governance structures, community development, education, and social services. In an attempt to contribute to the health and well-being of the residents of the region, the studies have all included recommendations for policy development/change, and the researchers connected with the Center have worked diligently to disseminate the results of the research to key constituents. CERC is interested in supporting the work of faculty and students interested in developing new participatory action research projects or expanding current projects in areas that inform its goals.
CERC is dedicated to facilitate systemic change in areas related to improving equity, inclusion, and social justice which tie into several SDGs such as: #5 Gender Equality, #10 Reduced Inequalities, and #16 Peace, Justice, and Strong Communities.
