A brief description of the programs sponsored by the institution to support underrepresented groups within the student body:

To promote equality at Eastern Mennonite University, there are a variety of campus wide efforts to support underrepresented groups. support programs are broken into a variety of categories to target specific groups of individuals with the hopes of encompassing all of the underrepresented groups within the university student and staff body. Academically, the Academic Support Center houses the COACHLINK program that is aimed at giving support to first generation college students. This program is also directed at students that speak english as a second or third language as a way to make their transition to the university easier. As a form of academic tutoring, The athletic department offers academic mentoring to all of its athletes.
Various student organized groups have been established as places where students can give each other support. Examples of these groups include the Black Student Union, Latino Student Alliance, and Safe Space (support for members of the LGBTQ community).
EMU also has an international and multicultural student service office to support the international student group that is represented on campus. This office hosts various multicultural activities throughout the school year that include International student week, latino heritage month, black history month, and women's history month.


A brief description of the programs sponsored by the institution to support underrepresented groups within the faculty:

At EMU, the largest underrepresented group within the faculty are those indivuduals of color and non-white ethnicity. For these faculty members, as a form of support, a tenured faculty member will serve as a mentor to that new faculty member to integrate them to the cultural dynamics at the university. The seminary at EMU also works to support underrepresented faculty groups by partnering with pastors from Central America to give them the opportunity to study and gain a masters degree from EMU.

In its hiring process, EMU reaches out to the underrepresented groups in the community as a first resource for hew staff members. The university offers annual training programs for faculty and staff specifically related to multicultural learning/skills/tolerance.
