Has the institution advocated for federal, state, and/or local public policies that support campus sustainability or that otherwise advance sustainability?:
Yes

A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability, including the issues, bills, and ordinances for or against which the institution has advocated:

Ithaca College president Tom Rochon was recently elected to the Board of Trustees of the Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities (cIcu), an organization that represents the more than 100 private, not-for-profit higher education institutions in New York on issues of public policy. The mission of the cIcu is to develop consensus among its members and advance higher education public policy at the state and federal levels. The board represents executive-level participation from colleges and universities in every region of New York State and highlights the diversity of institution type and size within New York’s independent sector of higher education.

In February, CICU rallied in Albany on New York Student Aid Alliance Advocacy Day. The CICU representatives advocated for continued support of funding programs that improve affordability and access to higher education for students. According to CICU: "Approximately 1,200 high school and college students, faculty and staff from more than 60 college campuses registered to come to Albany to share their stories about the value of state student aid programs, including the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP), Grad TAP, the Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP), the Science and Technology Entry programs (STEP/C-STEP), and the Liberty Partnerships Program."

In addition, according to Anthony Hopson, Assistant VP for Community and Government Relations, the President recently sent letters of endorsment for NYS Senate Bill 3755 which supports NYPA's efforts to extend the 100MW Solar PV Initiative to private institutions. Ithaca College believes passage of this bill will result in hundreds of schools, government buildings and municipal facilities throughout New York State going solar – at no upfront cost of their own. The bill was sponsored by State Senator Maziarz.
