2012-13 statistics: 1,834 full and part-time faculty and staff
1,926 staff vehicle parking permits issued in Fiscal Year 2012-13 (parking permits issued in January are good for entire year). 1,926 permits/1,834 employees = 100%+ “employees” with registered vehicles. Per Public Safety, the “employee” class of permits include benefits-eligible and non-benefits-eligible employees (1,834), but also include Challenge Industries workers/supervisors (est. 5*); Sodexo Dining Service workers (est. 100 x 90%*), graduate students (est. 478 x 80% ), retirees (118 x 100%), vendor (90 x 100%) and Hangar Theatre (39 x 90%).
*these categories of employees also have full access to TCAT bus service
To calculate best estimate of number of campus employees with parking permits: 1,926 – 5 – 90 – 382 - 118 – 90 - 35) = 1,206
1,206 registered parking permit holders / 1,834 employees = 66%
38 motorcycle permits were issued / 1834 = 2%
8.8% using other means of transportation (transit, carpooling, biking, walking)
5.8% using transit (see figures below)
3% using carpools, biking, walking
Based upon commuting survey of faculty/staff, 2% report they carpool regularly.
1% report regularly biking/walking for their commute
TCAT transit bus rides are based upon presentation of staff ID card.
45,232 total faculty/staff rides for FY 2012-2013 = 3,769 ave/month ridership
39,917 total faculty/staff rides for ACADEMIC YEAR (August – May ) = 3,992 ave/month ridership
Assume 2 rides per commuter per day * 23 work days per month = 46 rides per commuter.
# staff TCAT transit commuters for FY 2012-2013 = 82
# staff TCAT transit commuters for ACADEMIC Year (August- May) = 87

Tioga Transit system rides are based upon purchase of unlimited ride monthly pass for each employee. On average for 2012-2013 (during academic year – August - May), 16 employees took advantage of that system.
Chemung Transit system rides are based upon purchase of unlimited ride monthly pass for each employee. 4 employees regularly take advantage of that system all year around.
87 + 16 + 4 = 107 total transit users / 1,834 = 5.8%

Calculating drive-alones: 100% of employees with parking permits (1,206 = 66%) – 1% active commuters (bike/walk) – 2% carpool (from survey) – 5.8% transit users = 91.2%

The percentage (0-100) of institution’s employees who walk, bicycle, or use other non-motorized means as their primary method of transportation:
1

The percentage (0-100) of institution’s employees who van or carpool as their primary method of transportation:
2

The percentage (0-100) of institution’s employees who take a campus shuttle or public transportation as their primary method of transportation:
5.8%

The percentage (0-100) of institution’s employees who drive alone as their primary method of transportation:
91.2%
