Does the institution host a food bank, pantry, or equivalent resource focused on alleviating food insecurity, hunger and poverty among students?:
Yes

A brief description of the food bank, pantry, or equivalent resource:

All campuses at NSCC offer a food pantry program to support student food security. The programs may take different forms at different college locations, some campuses focus on having donated food onsite for students to take with them. Other campuses use a gift card program where students can collect a number of pre-paid gift cards from the food pantry to use to purchase food at the store.

NSCC also provides an urgent aid program to quickly deliver funding to students who have an emergency need. The NSCC Urgent Aid Program is available to provide financial assistance to help address urgent financial situations that put students at risk of discontinuing their education at NSCC.

NSCC students are eligible for Urgent Aid funding each academic year. As part of the Urgent Aid process, students receive financial advising and financial literacy training. Applicants must meet with an NSCC Student Advisor to discuss their situation and demonstrate financial need.

Additional food support programs are available on a campus by campus basis, and include:

-Food Smarts cooking demos at Akerley
-Feed NS Partnerships at AVC/COGS
-Hot Breakfast Programs at Pictou
