A brief description of the institution’s sustainability projects fund:

In 2021 when the College signed the SDG Accord, we began exploring new ways to embed the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into all aspects of our operations. In particular we were looking for ways to engage with staff at all campuses in a way that would spur creativity, and create ownership for SDG projects. In 2021, the College launched our SDG Project Fund. Any College staff member may apply to receive funding to support a project idea that advances the Sustainable Development Goals. The college has recently concluded its second year offering the fund and interest has grown significantly over this time. To date, the fund has enabled a wide variety of projects, including updating campus apiaries, creating bike rental programs, purchasing indoor vegetable gardens, funding a ukelele club, installing a locally designed SDG art exhibit and much more. This program has been a resounding success, turning sustainability opportunities into collaborative projects.

A brief description of the multi-stakeholder decision-making process used to determine which projects receive funding through the sustainability projects fund:

Submissions are initially reviewed at the campus level by the facilities manager and sustainability committee and then submitted to the Central Sustainability team for approval. Once reviewed by the central sustainability team and approved by majority the application is finally presented to the director of facilities and engineering. Application are assessed based on their ability to advance the Sustainable Development Goals at the campuses.
