The entire California State University (CSU) system also offers multiple training opportunities. In May 2023 a number of SF State staff attended: "Sustainable U: Practical Tips to Support Your Campus (and Personal) Sustainability Goals"
SF State employees also have access to numerous sustainability-related online courses through its CSU Learn (formerly Skill-port) program. Topics include corporate social responsibility, environmental health and safety, social entrepreneurship, waste minimization, pollution prevention, and energy conservation.

One example of an offered CSU Learn sustainability training course: "Building a Strategic Commitment to Sustainability" - the course description is below.
"In today’s business world, sustainability is a strategic necessity. The pressures on companies to be more socially, environmentally and economically sustainable are mounting on many fronts. Consumers and shareholders expect more than lip service – they want demonstrated commitment. In this course, you’ll learn about ways to identify areas where you can implement sustainable business practices, and some key lessons that can help you integrate sustainability into your company’s business strategy. Finally, you’ll learn about some concepts that may help you discover other ways you can move your company into higher levels of sustainability by considering some larger systems approaches. Materials in this course are based upon content provided in partnership with MIT Sloan Management Review."
A brief description of any external professional development and training opportunities in sustainability that are supported by the institution :
On an ongoing basis, Capital Planning, Design and Construction staff and Office of Sustainability staff attend numerous trainings made available by our Chancellor's Office system. Many trainings cover energy conservation, water conservation, life cycle analysis, prevailing wage, Buy Clean California Act (BCCA) recycling standards, Title 24 energy code, environmental product declaration, energy sustainability, and transportation 101.
Capital planning staff are required to attend Zero Net Carbon workshops:

SFSU hires two full time employees who run the sustainability program. These employees go through an annual performance review and are expected to coordinate, execute and complete sustainability projects. SFSU has a Director of Sustainability and Energy and a Climate Action Coordinator.
