Richard Ivey School of Business:
As part of "Ivey", the Building Sustainable Value Research Centre continues to provide funding for sustainability-related visitors and guest speakers. The centre also has an objective to establish one new sustainability course each year. These allow Ivey students to achieve a Sustainability Certificate in the Honors Business Administration (HBA) program.
The Centre for Environment and Sustainability:
The "Interdisciplinary Development Initiatives Program" (IDIs) provides seed funding for projects that further Western’s research and teaching mission, attract scholars and graduate students to the University, and bring prestige to Western. From 2009-2012, funding ($500,000) was awarded on a one-time basis for a three year period to the Centre for Environment and Sustainability. The funding from the IDI was used for a range of activities that included but were not limited to: student recruitment and retention, curriculum development, seminar support, communications, staff support, faculty alternative workload arrangements and infrastructure.
This funding resulted in furthering the Masters in Environment and Sustainability program and the enrollment rate for the 2013-2014 academic year was higher than any other academic year in the program's 8 year history.
A brief description of the incentives that faculty members who participate in the program(s) receive:
As a minimum number of sustainability-related courses are required to achieve the Sustainability Certificate in the HBA program, the program helps faculty members increase enrollment for sustainability classes offed by the department.
Faculty members and researchers from other institutions who specialize in a sustainability related topic have also been invited to lecture in many of these courses.
