How is the provisional score calculated?

The scoring methodology is outlined in the STARS Technical Manual and also described here. Under versions 2.0 and later, an institution’s STARS score is the total number of points earned divided by the total number of points available, plus up to four Innovation & Leadership points.
The provisional STARS score equals the percentage of available points earned plus a maximum of four Innovation & Leadership points
Please note that the provisional score is based on the total number of available points, i.e., the maximum number of points that could possibly be earned by the institution. The points available for credits saved as Not Applicable are excluded. The points available for credits saved as Not Pursuing are included.

Scoring was handled differently under previous versions of STARS (1.0-1.2). Please see the Archive for more information.
