Is the institution currently designated as a Fair Trade College or University?:
Yes

A brief description of the institution’s Fair Trade initiatives, including the year formal designation was achieved and/or renewed:

SFU first earned its Fair Trade Campus designation in 2012 - only the second university in Canada at the time to receive the designation. SFU has since renewed its designation on an annual basis.

Under the Fair Trade Campus requirements, all coffee served at SFU dining locations is Fairtrade certified, with fair trade tea and chocolate options available as well. SFU was the first university to work with Starbucks to offer fairtrade coffee, espresso, sugar and chocolate options. SFU is also the first institution in BC and the second in Canada to offer fair trade bananas in its dining venues.

SFU has been working closely with franchises on its campuses to offer Fairtrade certified options, leading the way to have its on-campus Starbucks offer Fairtrade espresso, and most recently sugar packets. Besides coffee, tea, and chocolate, SFU also sells Fairtrade certified t-shits in its bookstores.

Between September 25 - 29, 2017 SFU participated in the Fair Trade Campus Week, an annual campaign that brings together leaders from across Canada with the #FTCampus hashtag to spread the word on the national fair trade movement. During this week, SFU hosted daily events including the 99 cent Fairtrade coffee campaign at Mackenzie Café and Discovery, fairtrade giveaway & trivia, fairtrade t-shirt signing, fairtrade banana giveaway and hosted the Worlds Largest Fair Trade Bake Sale.

During the 2017/2018 school year, Fair Trade SFU welcomed new on-campus Fair Trade Ambassadors for the first time. This team of vibrant students promote and educate the SFU community on the institutions commitment to fairtrade.

Furthermore, in 2018, SFU was the host institution for Canada's 6th National Fair Trade Conference.
