Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Coastal-urban resilience engineering and science

A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:

Stevens Institute researchers have developed regional flood models, climate impact projections, as well as real-time forecasts and warning systems to improve societal preparedness for coastal flooding.

We serve on the New York City Panel on Climate Change and the New Jersey Climate Adaptation Alliance Science and Technical Advisory Panel, helping produce climate impact projections such as future flood risk maps.

We run the Stevens Flood Advisory System (SFAS) that is widely used for emergency management and enables residents to prepare for and adapt to nuisance flooding. In addition to posting data on our forecast webpage (http://stevens.edu/SFAS) and notifying people of impending flooding via email warnings, we are now providing probabilistic water level forecast data to the National Weather Service Weather Forecast Offices covering much of the Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern United States.
