STUDENTS

We have several Mental Health & Wellbeing initiatives and training programs that promote a safe, healthy, inclusive, and compassionate learning environment that supports the mental health and wellbeing of students. We promote and connect students to external services and programs that are evidence-based, free, and widely accessible in the community or online. TQ provides additional free Student Support Services.

The specialist services include:
* Learning support
* LEAP (Learn, Engage, Access, and Progress) Program
* Studiosity (one-on-one help from a subject specialist via Studiosity after hours)
* Learning Skills Centres (focus on face-to-face support but also includes phone, email, and Zoom)
* Counselling (face-to-face support but also includes phone, email, and Zoom) - cross-cultural and special needs, personal and complex issues, service referrals for long-term support, learning difficulties, and other time management, and study support.
* External counselling support
* Mental health and well-being plus referral to specialist programs i.e. Headspace, Reachout, and Emergency Support agencies i.e. DVConnect, 13YARN, Lifeline
* AccessAbility support provides practical assistance, support, and advice including the development of an individual support plan which may include sign language interpreters, readers, and scribes, and assistive technology.
* Indigenous student support
* International student support
* Library services
* Career and employment services with the TQGC region, including the Robina Campus having its own Employment Officer.

At the Robina Campus, students have the opportunity to participate in a number of fun, health, and wellness activities that are offered through the weekly lunchbox sessions and full-day/week events. A sample of activities include:

STAFF

As part of TAFE Queensland, Robina Campus staff have access to a range of services to assist their wellness and well-being. A sample of programs at a TQ-wide level include:
* My Fitness Passport - discounted offerings with local gyms near the campus location
* Domestic Violence (DV) support programs for staff affected by DV and participation in the DV Safe Phone Donations
* Darkness to Daylight (D2D) is a month-long event where people from all across Queensland join together to raise awareness and funds for DFV prevention.
* Bully Zero Culture of Excellence asserts our zero tolerance for bullying, harassment, and harmful workplace behaviours — and our determination to remain a workplace in which everyone feels safe, valued, and respected.
* Free Flu Vaccination is available to all staff every year
* Each quarter, our First Aid officers are offered the opportunity to complete the Mental Health First Aid qualification.

At Robina Campus, staff have access to our own gym but also specialist 1:1 training with our fitness students. The gym has hosted a number of fun activities including the Handstand Workshop, weekly yoga sessions, and relaxation/breathing sessions. The weekly lunchbox sessions cover a range of topics such as stress management, healthy eating, the importance of exercise, and a number of other well-being topics

Our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provides short-term counselling and support for all employees and immediate family members. ​​​​​​​All staff can achieve and maintain health and well-being with TAFE Queensland's free Employee Assistance Program for the staff member and eligible family members.
TAFE Queensland utilise an EAP service provided by Benestar. Employees can access Benestar by telephone, face-to-face, or video counselling. There is a toll-free number for appointments and online access via the website www.benestar.com.
Benestar counsellors are all highly experienced, professionally qualified psychologists or social workers. Consultations are strictly confidential. Benestar is completely independent of TAFE Queensland and no identifying information about you will be revealed. Services are provided at the cost of TAFE Queensland.
Benestar also offers a dedicated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Support Line, with access to clinicians who identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander or have in-depth cultural awareness and experience supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.

Support service areas include:

*Conflict and tension: Work/life balance; Anxiety, stress, depression
*Dealing with change: Family, child, and eldercare; Communication skills
*Self-care: Work performance: Violence and anger

*Gambling, alcohol, and addictions: Dealing with difficult people; Bullying and harassment.

Programs provided by Benestar

*MyCoach - EAP for Individuals – solution focussed counselling and coaching to deal with work and life issues. The service is able to assist with a wide range of situations and issues and aims to help individuals develop positive strategies to resolve their concerns.

*MyCoach for Money– early access to financial expertise to prevent money issues from developing into major problems by providing support for cash flow and/or debt situations impacting day-to-day living.

*MyCoach for Nutrition – accessible via telephone and covers the full range of nutrition issues including weight management, digestive health, using nutrition to assist with medical conditions and children's health.

*MyCoach for People Leaders – telephone coaching and support for managers and supervisors dealing with difficult or complex people issues. A manager may seek consultation regarding a particular issue or for referral of a team member.

*Incident Management / Complete Support (traumaAssist®) – requires a referral by a manager or supervisor for onsite support, coaching, and risk management following a workplace incident.

*BeneHub - an online health and wellbeing portal that provides access to information and articles, self-assessment tools, videos and podcasts, online counselling and support, a range of financial literacy and learning modules, and many more tools and resources.

*Benestar Interactive App – the always on, always available resource that lets you take charge of your own wellbeing and become 'your best you'

The institution’s smoke-free policy:

TAFE Queensland's smoke-free policy covers ​​​​​​arrangements for maintaining TAFE Queensland as a smoke-free environment. ​​​​​​​​​​​​Smoking (including using tobacco products, personal vaporisers, and e-cigarettes) is prohibited by all individuals on all TAFE Queensland sites, including:

*All TAFE Queensland campuses
*All TAFE Queensland leased sites
*All TAFE Queensland-owned leased, or private vehicles used for business purposes
*Appropriate smoke-free signage must be installed in relevant areas where appropriate.

TAFE Queensland’s status as a smoke-free environment is communicated to staff and students prior to, at commencement, and during their employment/enrolment. Information and resources for quitting smoking are made available to support staff and students.

Compliance with this policy is monitored through designated staff at the discretion of TAFE Queensland Executives. In the first instance of non-compliance students and staff are provided with reminders of the policy. Cases of repeated instances of smoking on TAFE Queensland sites are managed under the terms of the relevant disciplinary procedure.
