The Medical School's Sustainability Committee started in 2004 to coordinate various sustainability efforts across campus departments and for information sharing and dialog. The sustainability committee helps to promote sustainability initiatives and is instrumental in coordinating the annual Earth Day event.

The sustainability office is an office of one FTE during the academic year with additional staffing from paid-interns in the summer. The office is located within Facilities Management under the direction of the Associate Vice Chancellor of Facilities.

The Sustainability Committee has been instrumental in assisting with the Annual Earth Day event. Additionally, the committee has assisted in the launch of new educational signage for waste and recycling.

- Retro-commissioning of the Ambulatory Care Center, Sherman Center, and Lazare Research Building
- WasteWise award recipient for the both the Medical School and UMass Memorial Health Care for solid waste and recycling programs
- Expansion of electric vehicle charging infrastructure
- Development of surplus reuse program "the SWAP Shop"
