UDC participates in a Department of Justice program administered by UNICOR, which states the following:
All material is received, manifested, and processed as recyclable in accordance with a “zero landfill policy”. Each unit is evaluated and tested for re-utilization of parts, components, or materials. All circuitry is removed, decontaminated, and destroyed prior to precious metal recovery. All recycled materials are recovered in compliance with Federal, State, and local regulations. UNICOR, Federal Prison Industries, Inc. warranties the complete disposition of this material (CRT Glass is recycled by Closed Loop Recycle and Recovery, Phoetix, AZ).
A brief description of the electronic waste recycling program for institution-generated materials:
All electronic waste generated by the institution is disposed through a centralized process, in which individual offices submit a request for pickup. UDC's janitorial services collects equipment and transports it to the loading dock, where it is stored, packaged, and shipped off.
