The Sustainability Coordinator makes a presentation to the first year class during orientation and the RHD’s repeat and support her presentation during hall meetings.


Does new student orientation incorporate sustainability information into presentations (e.g., made by Residential Advisors to individual dorm floors)?:
Yes

RA's and RHD's receive posters and power points to share with the residents. An experienced sustainability student staff attends these meetings to provide more detail as well to answer any questions.


Does new student orientation actively engage students in activities that raise awareness about sustainability, highlight how sustainability plays out on campus, or allows students to take part in a productive green activity?:
Yes

During orientation team building students are invited to participate in a sustainability themed teambuilding activity. In 2013 we held a cardboard castle building competition. Boxes collected from the first day of move-in were brought to the center of campus, and all student were shocked by the amount of cardboard collected during move-in. This was, by far, the most popular team-building activity.

All first years are required to take a course called IS101. The common reader includes readings of a sustainability nature.
