What is the proper way to cite STARS reports or data?

AASHE believes that transparency is a key component in communicating sustainability claims. As a result, Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS) data are made publicly available through individual STARS reports, and through some STARS Data Displays. Any reference to STARS data must be attributed to AASHE. Citation styles vary across disciplines. Here are examples of citations for STARS Reports and data:

  • [Institution Name] STARS Report. Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). Date, Month, Year the report was published. Retrieved from http://URL of the public STARS report.
  • Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (2014-2019). STARS Participants and Reports. Retrieved from https://stars.aashe.org/institutions/participants-and-reports/

For more information, please review our Data Use Guidelines and STARS Reports & Data.
