Yes

A brief description of the mechanisms through which students have an avenue to participate in one or more governance bodies:

Interested students would make a written application to the NAITSA (NAIT Students’ Association) Senate. The Senate would hear presentations from the applicants as to why they feel they would be the best candidates for a Board position. A formal vote in two separate elections, one for executive council member, and one for student-at-large nominee takes place. The NAITSA President would then send notification in writing to the Minister of Innovation and Advanced Education and the President of NAIT to advise of the appointment within ten days of the vote by the Senate.


Is there at least one student representative on the institution’s governing body who was elected by peers or appointed by a representative student body or organization?:
Yes

A brief description of student representation on the governing body, including how the representatives are selected:

Two student representatives nominated by the council of the students association are appointed by the Minister to serve on the Board of Governors.

Students play an active role, just as a public member would, as they are a part of the Board meetings and committees of the Board. They have held roles on Academic Council, Governance Committee, and External Relations Committee. They have been involved in the approval of Annual Reports, Comprehensive Institutional Plan, and unlike other post-secondary institutions, have been very involved and supported of the tuition fee policy.


Do all staff, regardless of type or status, have an avenue to participate in one or more governance bodies (through direct participation or the election of representatives)?:
Yes

A brief description of the mechanisms through which all staff have an avenue to participate in one or more governance bodies:

One member of the non-academic staff, who is not engaged in the administration of the technical institute, is nominated by the non-academic staff association and appointed to the Board of Governors by the Minister.


Is there at least one non-supervisory staff representative on the institution’s governing body who was elected by peers or appointed by a representative staff body or organization?:
Yes

A brief description of non-supervisory staff representation on the governing body, including how the representatives are selected:

One member of the non-academic staff, who is not engaged in the administration of the technical institute, is nominated by the non-academic staff association and appointed to the Board of Governors by the Minister.

They have been involved in the approval of government mandated reports such as the Annual Report and Comprehensive Institutional Plan.

Yes

A brief description of the mechanisms through which all faculty (including adjunct faculty) have an avenue to participate in one or more governance bodies:

Two academic staff representatives are nominated by the academic staff association are appointed by the Minister to serve on the Board of Governors.


Is there at least one teaching or research faculty representative on the institution’s governing body who was elected by peers or appointed by a representative faculty body or organization?:
Yes

A brief description of faculty representation on the governing body, including how the representatives are selected:

Interested NASA (NAIT Academic Staff Association) members can apply to NASA directly. The members are voted on at the Association election, notification is provided to the Minister of Innovation and Advanced Education and the President of NAIT.
