In 2000, RRU implemented a chemical-free cleaning program which includes the use of micro-fiber cloths for disinfection rather than chemicals. The micro-fiber cloths successfully remove bacteria from surfaces and the bacteria are dealt with when the cloths are laundered. There are no guidelines for the purchase of green cleaning products because at the time of inception there was a lack of selection of these products. The current list of products that are used includes Green Seal, Planet Clean, ACME, Oxygenic, and Nutri-clean.
Both of these expenditure values are estimates. Amounts are in Canadian dollars.
The expenditures on Green Seal and/or EcoLogo products includes the purchase of the micro-fiber cloths, which are the main disinfection method used.
The total expenditure on cleaning products includes the purchase of mats and cleaning equipment.
The only current cleaning contract is for outdoor windows. The company that usually fills that contract is known to use eco-friendly cleaning products.
