The university offers many scholarships and awards based on demonstrated need of a student's financial situation. Generally the student is at least required to be financially able to pay the first installment of tuition and the initial payment to hold a position in the cohort as an enrolled student. After these minimum requirements have been met, needs-based scholarships may be awarded.

RRU has a flexible admission policy that allows applicants who do not have the formal academic education to qualify for admission to be assessed on the basis of both their formal education and their informal learning. This may include a combination of work, formal training and education.

RRU has entrance awards, in-course awards, convocation awards, research awards, and additional external awards that are available to the student body. Funding is also available to Aboriginal students that those with accessibility needs.
