University of Massachusetts Boston is actively engaged with the Massachusetts's Leading By Example (LBE) Council. LBE works with universities and other state entities to reduce the environmental impacts from state government operations. Ultimately, LBE is guided by Executive Order 594, which strives to decarbonize state facilities. Through LBE, many state agencies--including universities such as UMB--are able to advocate for sustainable public policy change and implementation such as greenhouse gas reduction, energy efficiency, and sustainable transportation.
