A brief description of notable policies or programs to support non-traditional students:

"The Student Success Scholars Program (SSS) Program at UMass Boston is a federally funded TRIO program that holistically supports approximately 500 multilingual, culturally, ethnically and racially diverse students. In SSS, we work together with students to increase academic achievement by providing culturally sustainable advising and creating belonging for students in the program. We do this by getting to know students' interests, experiences, and understanding that the social capital students bring, are strengths and not barriers to their success...The mission of the Student Success Scholars Program is to retain and graduate, within four- six years, students who are first-generation, students of color, multilingual, and students with disabilities."

Mature Adults:
Massachusetts residents 60 and older interested in attending UMass Boston are eligible for a tuition credit

"The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at UMass Boston is a membership-based community of mature adults who enjoy learning and want to spend time with like-minded people. OLLI's mission is to foster accessible lifelong learning, individual growth, and social connection for mature learners age 50+ by providing stimulating opportunities to enrich the intellectual, social, and cultural lives of members, regardless of educational background. Through a modestly priced membership, OLLI provides non-credit courses, special lectures, social events, theatre outings, and field trips in the U.S. and abroad. No specific background is required to join, just an interest in academic learning, the desire to participate actively with your peers, and an open mind."

Veterans:
"The UMass Boston Student Veterans' Center is a student run center, established to help support the student veteran population at UMass Boston. The Veterans Center is a resource center which provides a wide range of information on veteran issues to both veterans and veteran supporters at UMass.

The Office of Veterans Affairs guides students from application through graduation and beyond. Professional staff members, who also are veterans, support students’ academic success and provide assistance with military transfer credits, financial and benefit information, as well as professional networking."
