Each of the UMass campuses, through the UMass Trademark & Licensing Administration, has been an active participant in the Sumerra ESEP and SMAQ programs. Each program supports sustainable manufacturing through the monitoring and remediation efforts of licensees & suppliers who produce logoed university products.
ESEP is a global supply chain monitoring program developed in 2014 to support universities and their trademark licensees in evaluating and addressing the working and environmental conditions in partner factories.
The Sustainable Manufacturing Assessment Questionnaire (SMAQ) is an on-line questionnaire that measures the quality and depth of an organization’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program.
This data is shared with Brands, Retailers, Universities, Licensors and other stakeholders who use the information when making responsible sourcing relationship decisions.
