There have been multiple attempts to institute a carpool/ride-share matching program for students, faculty, and staff at the university. Evidence for the use and desire of such a program is seen through the 2011 Commuter Preferences Survey which concluded that carpooling was the number one choice of alternative transportation that the institution's population would use if there was a way to find others living in close proximity to carpool with. The main reason that the programs have been rejected by administration is concern for the privacy of those using the program in that the identification number of users must be utilized in making matching recommendations. Also, there is concern from administration that the programs will not be efficient.
