UNF participates in a variety of awards and programs such as Florida Bright Futures. UNF also participates in disbursing Federal and Institutional Grants for school tuition and housing costs. Another program that is especially prominent is "The Jacksonville Commitment," which is a partnership among colleges that awards low-income students in Duval County scholarships who meet academic criteria.

A brief description of the institution’s programs to prepare students from low-income backgrounds for higher education:
1. College Reach-Out Program (CROP) is a collaborative effort among the University of North Florida, the Florida Institute of Education, Florida Department of Education and Duval County Public Schools to increase the number of students from low income families who graduate from high school and are admitted to and successfully complete a post-secondary education program.
2. The Jacksonville Commitment is a partnership among the four Jacksonville colleges and universities, the Duval County Public Schools and City of Jacksonville. The program has 7 elements including Jacksonville Commitment Advisers located in public high schools, parent engagement, scholarships and college support and retention services.

1. Through the Jacksonville Commitment, UNF offers funding to cover tuition for students from low income families.
2. The University of North Florida believes that every qualified student should have access to a college education regardless of their ability to pay. One of the ways in which the University provides such assistance is through the Pathways to Success Scholarship Program. This $21 million community initiative not only provides financial assistance but also tracks and monitors each student's educational progress. This allows Pathways students to excel academically while providing leadership and service to many organizations on campus.

1. Through the Jacksonville Commitment, parents will be involved and informed throughout the program and information sessions intended for parents will include (but not be limited to) financial planning, financial aid, and how to encourage children to pursue academic excellence.
