In order to minimize the presence of hazardous waste on campus, an effective management system is implemented through a hazardous waste management procedure developed by the HSE department in collaboration with the sustainable development department.
This system aims to:
Organize the transport of all hazardous waste;
Standardize practices in terms of hazardous waste management;
Ensure traceability from the generating entity to the partner destroying the dangerous waste;
Reduce the negative impact of hazardous waste generation on the environment;
A brief description of how the institution safely disposes of hazardous, universal, and non-regulated chemical waste:
Waste is stored at the level of the hazardous waste storage room managed by the HSE department;
A ventilation system is installed to ensure the renewal of air in the storage room of hazardous waste;
A fire detection system (extinguishers) is put in place;
It is necessary to wear the Personal Protection Equipment before accessing the central premises of the hazardous waste: (Respiratory mask, chemical protective goggles, gloves, safety shoe and chemical suit in case of handling hazardous waste);
Inside the premises, storage areas are identified by nameplates. signage indicating the name and regulatory code of each dangerous waste;
Hazardous waste that may cause spills is stored in retention tanks;
Chemical waste containers are stored while respecting compatibility rules;
Anti-pollution kits are available in the room for intervention in the event of a spill;

The Existant System consists of ensuring the tracking of the collection and waste disposal through waste tracking slips filled in by the HSE interlocutor in order to constitute proof of their elimination.

Step to go green is a project that aims to recycle unused/dysfunctional laptops stored in the IT department of the university. These defective PCs are repaired and then reconfigured to be used as personal laptops for students.
