Being a university located in the heart of the green city of Benguerir, a city with an ecological vocation, the university has focused on optimizing conventional management practices for its rainwater in order to reduce the problems caused by runoff.
In this sense, the university is constructed in a way that reduces runoff at the source by capturing rainfall before it reaches the sewer system.
Among these practices we find :
1- Plants and Green landscapes :
* Several varieties of trees and carpeting plants cover large areas of the campus to promote infiltration, filtration and retention of rainwater.
These green spaces mainly constitute a base of xerophilous and native plants that do not have a great need for water. In addition, the infiltration of water into the soil recharges underground water reserves and reduces the effects of erosion.
2- Green Roofs :
Developping green Roofs at the university will allow it to take a big step in terms of LID practice. Such a laying out will make it possible to achieve very good levels of performance, both in thermal and sound insulation of buildings.

This unconventional water management policy of the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University aims to guide the approach and practices for an effective management of unconventional water resources according to the following guidelines:
• The general water context of Benguerir marked by a significant lack in terms of deep water resources, imposes a very specific mode of management of rainwater as well as a need to reuse the purified wastewater of the university (Treated gray water) especially in the irrigation of its green spaces.
• The implementation of low impact development projects (LID practices) aims to reduce runoff at the source by capturing rainfall before it reaches the sewer system.
• Several varieties of trees and carpeting plants cover large areas of the campus to promote infiltration, filtration and retention of rainwater.
• Ensure the supply of the collection tank with treated wastewater from the wastewater treatment plant of the city of Benguerir.
• The irrigation of green spaces must be based mainly on rainwater and purified gray water, minimizing the use of conventional water resources (water from wells, etc...).
• Ensure regular monitoring of irrigation water consumption by installing counters at the outlet of the water collection tank.
• Develop skills, raise awareness and empower all employees, suppliers and other stakeholders on the importance of using non-conventional water resources, and on optimizing water consumption.
• Allocate the necessary resources for the implementation of this policy.
All these commitments are translated into concrete acts, included in action plans, and monitored and evaluated by the governance bodies of the General Affairs Department.
This policy and the associated objectives are periodically reviewed by the university's sustainable development department to ensure their relevance.
