A brief description of the program, including examples of peer-to-peer outreach activities (1st program):

The trades & Technology showcase allows the students to showcase their final projects to the public and all students on campus at our Waterfront campus. Students research and teach various subjects relating to sustainability.

Many of the programs offered at the campus research and demonstrate their projects. Through this other students can learn about many different aspects of sustainability.

All students enrolled in a technology based program are required to do a project for the showcase.


A brief description of the formal training that the student educators receive (1st program):

The students receive the formal training in their program through their instructors. They receive relevant training in the first and second year of the program they are enrolled in before starting research on their project.


A brief description of the financial or other support the institution provides to the program (1st program):

As NSCC does not follow a tenure model support is offered from the institution through the instructors. The instructors assist in choosing the appropriate project, find mentors in the industry that are related to the project and giving instruction and advice throughout the project.

The Strait Area Campus Green Team- Waste Management Orientation

The Green Team is a student run committee at our Strait Area campus. The committee does various projects through out the year to promote sustainability on campus. One of the projects is to go each classroom and the beginning of the school year and teach their follow students on proper waste sorting. Since the committee has become involved in teaching waste management on campus the campus' waste diversion rate has increased from a low of 26% to a current high of 72%.

The student educators are all the students on the green committee and those enrolled in the Natural Resources Environmental Technology program.


A brief description of the formal training that the student educators receive (2nd program):

The students on green team participate in the bi-annual waste audit and receive instruction and hands on training on proper waste sorting and management. They take these lessons and what they learning to the other students on campus.


A brief description of the financial or other support the institution provides to the program (2nd program):

The green team receives supports from the faculty and facilities management not just on campus but from central facilities management as well.
