All new construction on all campuses must be designed and constructed to meet or exceed the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED™Silver Certification standard. Three of Western La Crosse's buildings are LEED™certified Silver (one more recent addition is anticipated to be Silver certified), one is certified Gold, and one is certified Platinum. In addition, Western owns one certified Passive House.

Procedures

All New Construction

Western Technical College shall apply a whole-building approach to sustainability in five areas identified by the U.S. Green Building Council as key for its Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED™) certification: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality.

Western Technical College shall ensure all new construction at all campuses is designed and constructed to meet or exceed the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED™ silver certification standard.

Remodeled Facilities

Western Technical College shall ensure that any renovation at all campuses is designed and constructed to meet or exceed the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED™ silver certification standard.

Western Technical College shall promote LEED™ standards for operation and maintenance of existing buildings at all campuses.

Leased and Rental Properties

Western Technical College shall influence developers of new college-leased properties to use sustainable building practices and work to achieve LEED™ silver certification standards at all campuses.

Western Technical College shall promote LEED™ standards for operation and maintenance of existing rented or leased college buildings at all campuses.

The VP of Finance and Operations makes sure all new buildings follow sustainability standards and LEED Silver certification. He is involved in each step of the process.
