Does the institution cover sustainability topics in new employee orientation and/or in outreach and guidance materials distributed to new employees, including faculty and staff?:
Yes

A brief description of how sustainability is included in new employee orientation:

Before new employees step onto campus, messages about our commitment to sustainability are included in email communications that are part of the new employee on-boarding process. This includes email messages to all new faculty and staff (regular and temporary employees) as well as graduate student employees with a link to the Plant Blue website and a call to action to get involved in the effort. The outreach messages read as follows:

Planet Blue
Sustaining the long-term health and well-being of our planet requires effort from local to global scales. U-M is coordinating and focusing its expertise and resources to spur global progress while also working locally to set the standard for excellence in achieving a green campus.

Once on campus, sustainability is also addressed during new employee orientation sessions. Specifically, orientation leaders emphasize U-M’s efforts during their presentation by showing a slide that highlights the U-M Sustainability initiative and our Planet Blue website.
