All students are provided with a London Oyster Travelcard for Zones 1 - 2 on the Underground, unlimited (zoneless) travel on London busses. These travelcards are replaceable if lost or stolen and utilizing public transport is highlighted during Student Orientation as the preferred mode of transportation.
Any academic related travel outside of Zone 2 is financially covered by FIE as students are expected to utilize public transport. Faculty is provided with additional funds for students to "top up" their Oyster cards for any additional travel costs incurred; when traveling together as a class or group, faculty always use public transport and often public transportation stations are used as the group meeting place.
Students who are participating in a FIE organized internship are also encouraged to use public transportation. Any students who are placed in internships outside of Zone 2 are able to and encouraged to claim travel reimbursement from FIE for a "top up" on their Oyster cards. In 2016, only 7% of FIE's internship placements were outside of Zone 2 and therefore required additional funds for students to continue to utilize their provided public transportation card.
All FIE organized extra-curricular (social) events that include transportation use public transportation when possible (e.g. trains to/from Wales). Students are encouraged to use public transportation as instructions emailed to students include local transport links (underground, bus stops) in the directions.

Transport for London travelcards (Oysters) are provided to all students for the duration of their program dates; additionally, students are encouraged to "top up" these cards for any travel outside of the covered zones (1 - 2 on the Underground, all zones on busses).
Arrival and departure information provided to students highlight the public transportation links to London airports (coaches, busses, the Underground and trains) and encourage students to travel in groups, when possible, if using cabs or private transportation.
FIE maintains an account with Green Tomato Cars, a local ethical car company (http://www.greentomatocars.com/en-uk/). FIE staff utilise this company when responding to student emergencies and students are provided with this company's contact info when information regarding cabs/taxis is requested.
