The Centre for Community Engaged Learning (CCEL) supports the University’s goal of increasing student engagement and fostering student success by offering service-learning programs through both curricular service-learning (for academic credit) and co-curricular service-learning programs (non-credit programs). The CCEL works closely with partners in the non-profit and voluntary sector and faculty members to provide students with enriching educational experiences that prepare them to contribute to the world around them.
The Students’ Union’s Volunteer Services provides students with a number of way to make a difference in our community, gain professional experience and to get involved in campus life. It is dedicated to advancing the distinct role of the community sector here on campus. We foster volunteerism, social innovation, collaboration, community/social enterprise and service learning that directly supports students on campus and creates real world experiences in the greater Calgary community.
The Students’ Union has nearly 300 student clubs involved in a range of activities including athletics, music, theatre, social issues, volunteering, religion, cultural issues, politics, academics, and community service. Thousands of students participate in these clubs each year.
The Co-Curricular Record is the University of Calgary’s official document that recognizes a student’s out-of-classroom experiences. Out-of-classroom is defined as any activity that occurs outside of the classroom, lab, practica, or internship, but which is still connected to the university. The U of C is the first university to establish a Co-Curricular Record in Western Canada.
