A brief description of the facilities for bicycle commuters:
We have covered bike racks throughout campus, where bikes can be locked. Lockers are available in the Robert Crown Center (RCC) on a first come, first serve basis. Showers are also available at the RCC and the Multisport Center. Faculty, staff, or any student may sign up for a locker at RCC or Multisport on a per-semester basis.
Does the institution provide short-term bicycle parking for all occupied buildings and makes long-term bicycle storage available for students who live on-site (if applicable)?:

We have covered bike racks on campus, where bikes can be locked, near all residential halls. There are bike racks outside of all non-residential buildings. Indoor bicycle storage is available in some but not all student residences.
Does the institution have a bicycle and pedestrian plan or policy (or adhere to a local community plan/policy) that sets standards and practices for campus streets to enable safe access for all users?:
A brief description of the bicycle and pedestrian plan or policy:
Hampshire College has not formally adopted a bicycle/pedestrian policy but our campus planning principles maximize the benefits of our pedestrian and bicycle friendly campus. For example, In 2014, the college eliminated a large traffic circle and parking lot at the center of campus, transforming it into a space for people and creating a green quad of lawns and meadows. The college also ceased mowing a dozen acres of lawns to create more ecologically diverse meadows throughout campus that reduce greenhouse-gas emissions, create wildlife and plant habitats, save on landscaping expenses, and provide learning and research opportunities. Hampster Wheels is a community bicycle program that takes old donated bikes, fixes them up, and loans them to community members.

Five College students, staff, and faculty (including Hampshire College) ride the Pioneer Valley Transit Authority bus lines between the five colleges and towns of Amherst, Hadley, Northampton, and South Hadley for free during the academic year. This service is funded by the Five Colleges consortium, of which Hampshire is a member.

The Five Colleges consortium pays a a fee to the PVTA for the academic year to run the buses between the five campuses. The campuses pay about 80% of this total (equal shares) and the Student Government Associations pay about 20% for extra service outside of class times for evening and weekend buses.

The Environmental Committee is working with the MA Department of Transportation to promote the "MassRides" program, which is available to all state residents.

Hampshire College's Community Partnerships for Social Change (CPSC) coordinates two vans to make community-based off-campus internships, work-study jobs, and partnership projects more accessible to students, particularly to areas where there is little or no public transportation.

A partnership with ZipCar offers Hampshire students, faculty, and staff discounted membership rates for access to the dedicated group of Zipcars that live on campus.

Number of times Zipcars have been used since Sept 2017: 561 reservations (all users including non-Hampshire people), 227 uses by Hampshire staff, students, faculty and alumni

A brief description of the electric vehicle recharging stations:
Two permanent, dual-station Level 2 charging stations are available for electric vehicle drivers who work and live at Hampshire College, as well as the local community.
The first charging station, installed in 2014, was donated to the College by Nissan. It was installed in the parking lot behind Johnson Library.
A second dual-station charging station was installed in 2017, in another popular campus location, under a MassEVIP Workplace Charging grant. This was in response to requests from the campus community, because the first station was heavily utilized.

In spring 2012, following a feasibility study, a flexible work arrangement policy was set up through the Human Resources office. Employees may officially request flexible work arrangements, with approval and details agreed upon by the supervisor, depending upon departmental needs.
