The Registrar’s office provided a list of all the courses offered for the academic year 2022-2023.
We removed from that list 58 courses identified as "individually directed" or "special topic oriented".
Thanks to an Excel keyword research tool, we identified courses that contain key words related to sustainable development in the title or description. We used and adapted a keyword research tool provided by Polytechnique Montréal, in collaboration with Université Téluq, and with the tools provided by AASHE such as the keyword list.
After cataloguing the courses identified by keywords, the Sustainable Development Team classified the courses by identifying them as either sustainability-focused or inclusive, according to the definitions provided by AASHE; a justification was written for every course identified. The courses were also assigned to one or more SDGs – in the end, and 16 out of the 17 SDGs are represented by the courses on the list.
The list of courses and their classification was then submitted to the director of every study program by the Graduate Studies and Student Success Service for validation and some corrections were made with their input.
Please note that courses with the acronym "EUR" are courses offered jointly with the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) as part of the joint INRS-UQAM master's and doctoral programs in urban studies.
