A brief description of the institution’s program to support employee volunteering:

-The INRS program "Allies Network": volunteers, including staff and students, are trained to provide psychological support to community members in need. This network encourages staff, students and professors to get involved in the community by offering them volunteering opportunities, benefiting both INRS and the mental health of the community. Staff serving as allies all receive training on their paid time. More: https://inrs.ca/en/inrs/community-services/psychological-psychosocial-learning-support/

Data source(s) and notes about the submission:

- Non-program students were excluded from the total number of students as these students are just passing through for a semester.
- The number of students participating in community service and the number of hours were calculated based on the survey launched in September 2023 for credits AC-6 and EN-6. This question was asked to everyone: "In the past year, have you volunteered in any of the following areas (Environment, Community/Social Justice)? If so, approximately how many hours in total over the past year?". 32 out of 54 responding students (59%) who took the survey declared doing volunteering in the past year, for an average of 67 hours per year. 59% of our total number of students is 451. However, the sample seems small (only 7% of students took the survey), so an average was made with the total number of students participating in community service within INRS, which is 171 students. This number was compiled by the Graduate Studies and Student Success Service by adding all students that were involved in these programs or activities in 2022-2023: Apprentis chercheurs, Allies Network (mental health ambassadors), EDI student committee, student associations, career days, Lab visits, Public talks in schools, and other events (Women in Science, 24 hours of science, education fairs, waste audits, tree planting, etc.). The average of 451 and 171 is 311.
- In the survey, the average number of hours per year for responding students was 67 h/yr. This number was multiplied by the number of students participating in community service.
