The viable income according to household type in Quebec in 2022, according to the Institut de recherche et d'informations socioéconomiques (IRIS) (https://iris-recherche.qc.ca/publications/le-revenu-viable-2022-en-periode-de-crises-multiples/) for a single person in Montreal, is $29,577, which translates to an hourly wage of $14.17 for a 40-hour workweek.
The lowest-paid student employee earns $20.99 per hour ($43,810 annually for a 40-hour workweek) as of September 7, 2023 (based on the 2021 scales. These will be reviewed and increased by 3.5% shortly). We used the calculator at https://www.calculconversion.com/calcul-salaire-brut-net-quebec to convert the gross salary to net salary, which results in $32,854, or $15.74 per hour.
