The INRS is aware of its responsibilities regarding the maintenance of a high-quality working and learning environment for its entire community. It prioritizes this and takes on its responsibilities and obligations in terms of ensuring the health, safety, and physical well-being of its community members and any external individuals.
Through the adoption of the Occupational Health and Safety Policy, INRS promotes addressing occupational health and safety issues and implements mechanisms for cooperation and collaboration to identify, eliminate, or reduce work-related risks and risks associated with training activities at INRS.
This is overseen by an institutional committee and local committees in each of the centres. These committees identify risks, establish procedures to ensure safe work, provide training, conduct periodic inspections and audits, and develop occupational hygiene manuals for each of the centres.
All new students and employees with a lab access receive a Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) training and make a security tour of the entire building and the labs.

Data corresponds to accidents/incidents between June 1, 2022, and May 31, 2023. All accidents and incidents are tracked by the human resources service (occupational health and safety (OHS) committee). Of the 72 recorded incidents that year for both students and employees and without distinction as to whether or not they lost work days, only 6 cases meet the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) definition (essentially: employees only, loss of 2 days' work, temporary assignment to light duties).
