A brief description of the program(s):

The Arboretum Collaborative was a Presidential initiative designed to bring together competitively selected JMU faculty during each spring semester to learn and share with one another. A series of workshop sessions on course re/design and sustainability content increased participants' awareness and knowledge of environmental stewardship with the goal of stimulating curriculum innovation. Applications were welcome from all JMU faculty, but preference was given to those teaching in areas that do not traditionally focus on environmental stewardship. The goal of the program was to stimulate new curriculum innovation and was intended for faculty who were not already incorporating significant sustainability or environmental stewardship components into their courses. Faculty teaching general education, discipline-specific, or multi-disciplinary courses were eligible to apply for the Arboretum Collaborative.

In addition, summer Course Re-development Grants for general education courses gave special consideration to courses that included sustainability and environmental stewardship content. Awards for 2013-2014 were for Geography: the Global Dimension and Religions of the World.
