A brief description of the institution’s formal community partnership to advance sustainability:
The partnership with Les Urbainculteurs is for the development and maintenance of a vegetable garden behind the Université TÉLUQ building in the St-Roch district of Quebec City. It was set up in 2017. Les Urbainculteurs support and guide the university’s employee volunteers in all activities related to the vegetable garden in addition to providing the plants and seeds. Under their guidance, cultivation of the vegetable garden meets the highest standards of urban agriculture, an innovative, accessible and ecological form of agriculture.

This partnership is the result of the previous one. It enables Université TÉLUQ to donate the produce harvested from the vegetable garden to SQUAT Basse-Ville. This organization’s mission is to welcome, guide and support young people experiencing one or more aspects of homelessness. Through this partnership, SQUAT Basse-Ville promotes healthy eating and serves nutritious, fresh and balanced locally produced food to the young people that it welcomes. Produce from the Université TÉLUQ vegetable garden has been donated to SQUAT Basse-Ville since 2017.

The partnership with the Desjardins National Museum of Photography was developed to present the exhibition entitled, “NOUS: portraits de l’assistance sociale”. This exhibition invites us to identify and deconstruct preconceived ideas about people receiving social assistance. It offers an opportunity to discover their little-known realities, Quebecers’ perception of them and the nature of government assistance.
This exhibition features photographs, testimonials and the findings of extensive university research. It also presents the history and nature of social assistance programs in Quebec, while questioning our collective relationship to poverty.
