Université TÉLUQ has been advocating to the provincial government on an ongoing basis, including giving presentations and briefs, to promote its mission of accessibility and democratization of higher education, ensuring that the particular needs of Université TÉLUQ students are taken into account, as these needs could not otherwise be met by “traditional” universities.
Since 1972, Université TÉLUQ’s unique model has enabled students to begin their studies at their convenience, to follow their program at their own pace, while benefiting from the individualized support of academic staff that is entirely dedicated to them. Our particular formula includes an individualized program for each student, without the notion of a course group or cohort. This allows us to meet the needs of a wide variety of people: Students with disabilities, first-generation students, full-time workers, parents of young children, globetrotters, military personnel, high-level athletes, embassy and consulate employees, etc.
In June 2023, Université TÉLUQ submitted a brief as part of the call for submissions related to the revision of the Quebec University Funding Policy. The brief was titled « reconnaitre, valoriser et soutenir la mission particulière de l’Université TÉLUQ afin de décupler son impact sur les enjeux stratégiques du Québec » ("Recognizing, Valuing, and Supporting the Unique Mission of Université TÉLUQ to Amplify Its Impact on Quebec's Strategic Issues") (see PDF). In this brief, Université TÉLUQ argues that the unique aspects of its model are not recognized within the Quebec university funding policy. It also highlights the environmental benefits of the distance learning model.
Furthermore, among other events, the Université TÉLUQ participates in discussions on francization and integration issues for newcomers.
