Does the institution use timers to regulate temperatures based on occupancy hours in at least one building?:
Yes

A brief description of the technology used:

The University of Alberta utilizes its Direct Digital Control (DDC) and Building Automation Systems (BAS) to schedule the operation of systems and provide space temperature setbacks.

An example of temperature setbacks would be in the Health Research Innovation Centre buildings. During unoccupied hours, space temperatures are allowed to swing up during warm weather conditions, and swing down under cool weather conditions.

Another example is the Centennial Centre for Interdisciplinary Sciences where lighting control occupancy sensors for individual offices and areas shutdown zone lighting and ventilation equipment, and the BAS allows space temperatures to deviate off setpoint whenever individual spaces are unoccupied.
