There are meters that measure electricity, steam, and water consumption on each building, the transmitters on each meter direct the information to the plant where the information is processed. Info is then displayed on a website (URL below), and updated in real time. The meters that do not have transmitters are checked and up dated monthly.
UAF also has a central Energy Management and Control System, or EMCS. Most of UAF's buildings have Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems to provide building automation of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) and other systems. Each DDC system is centrally managed by the EMCS to provide monitoring, alarming, and energy management of the buildings.
