A brief description of the program:

Iowa State University participates in Iowa’s Certified Targeted Small Business Program, as created by the Iowa Legislature. As such, Iowa State has mandatory procurement spending goals towards targeted small businesses, as well as a $25,000 threshold for targeted small business purchases where a formal bidding process is not required. Each fiscal year Iowa State sets spending goals for doing business solely with Iowa’s certified targeted small businesses. This program specifically benefits businesses located in Iowa and that have an annual gross income of less than $4 million computed as an average of the three preceding fiscal years.

Iowa State also tracks local business activity and reports to the Board of Regents annually. 43.3% of all procurements during FY12 were to Iowa-based businesses.
